Tobias “The Terrible” Tremayne

An illustrated children’s book. This is the story of Tobias “The Terrible” Tremayne, a small boy who lives near Penobscot Bay in Maine. He enjoys pretending to be a pirate. He stands in an old un-seaworthy dory, with a piece of pipe for a sword and imagines himself battling Dutch, Spanish, and English ships. His part of the story is told in rhyme. His imaginary world is interrupted by a rude little girl, Elizabeth Alexandria, who tells him to be quiet as his shouts are disrupting her reading.
She points out his sword is only a piece of pipe and his ship is only an old dory. Her part of
the story is told in prose. Her father bribes her into helping the boy repair his boat, and she takes him out in the bay, the first time he has actually been on the water. He loses his fear of the water, gets into trouble, and is rescued by Elizabeth and her father. The story ends with Elizabeth
